Laughing Together, Building Toward the 2019 Opener, Fresh New Caps, and Other Bullets

After being sick for the better part of last week, I finally feel like myself again. Or something close to myself. All I know is that I’ll never take eating for granted again.

  • The Bears’ April Fools Day shenanigans got a laugh out of me. And since I had been ill since last Wednesday, I was appreciative the hearty laugh they provided with a joke they have been building toward since teasing uniform-related news during last week’s league’s meetings. And in case you missed it, this is how the Bears announced to the world they were just joking about jumping into the 100s:
  • Kyle Long, Leonard Floyd, Allen Robinson, Trey Burton, and others tweeted their excitement about the news, which really pushed the long con into another stratosphere. Impressive stuff, really. Well done by all parties. But I’m not going to front here when I say I would totally rock a Kyle Fuller 123 jersey if it became available.
  • In case you missed it, Aaron Lynch – who would have worn No. 199 had the Bears not been kidding around – re-signed with the team on Monday. No foolin’. Lynch returns to provide necessary depth among Chicago’s group of pass-rushers. “Where else would I want to be?” Lynch told the Bears’ official website. “This is where I want to be. It’s where I see my future.” It’s a short-term future for the time being, as Lynch signed just a one-year deal. But he will play 2019 in his age 26 season, so it’s possible he could still have plenty of years to come in a Bears uniform. For now, we’ll take it one year at a time.
  • Roquan Smith seems pumped about getting back together with his friends:

  • Funny. That feeling Smith has is the same one I get when Sunday/Monday rolls around during the football season. Let’s get it.
  • We should all be very excited about what the new year brings for Smith, who led the Bears in tackles as a rookie in 2018. Entering his second year in the league, Smith will get the full benefits that come with attending OTAs, mini-camps, and training camp. Smith didn’t get those opportunities as a rookie and did a ton of on-the-job training after his lengthy hold-out, but his time away from the team didn’t take away from his play last season. It makes you think how much more awesome he will be now that he’ll get to lay all of the offseason groundwork.
  • It all begins on April 15 as the Bears start their build-up toward the 2019 season-opener with their offseason program. It’s a later start than last year. But thankfully, the Bears don’t have a ton of install to do as they did a year ago at this time.
  • And then there is 2018 second-round pick Anthony Miller, who will be out of action as he recovers from offseason shoulder surgery. Once he is healthy, expect plenty of this in his future:
  • Miller caught a team-leading seven touchdown passes, which helped Mitch Trubisky come along in his second year as a starting quarterback. Trubisky posted a 116.4 passer rating and 6-1 touchdown-to-interception ratio when targeting Miller in 2018 in what we figure to be the beginning of a beautiful relationship between the two growing studs on the Bears offense.
  • The biggest threat to the Bears is the Bears themselves. But for the sake of a television segment, the Good Morning Football crew had to come up with a different answer:

  • Unless the Bears do something wild like trade into the first or second round, we’re probably not going to see a draft pick rock one of these new caps. But they’re still sharp as heck:
  • The Bears draft caps are out, and I'm loving the "Chicago" one especially. You can get 'em here at the official Bears store: http://shrsl.com/1j7r9

  • I’m totally here fore anything that incorporates the Chicago flag. Great concept, design, and execution all around.
  • The Jay Cutler Trade has reached its 10th birthday. Celebrate responsibly:
