Anyone Else Watching Yu Darvish?
Posted 02 April 2013 - 10:35 PM
As I tweeted, this game is the most excited I've been about baseball since October 08.
Very sad, very true.
But, I can't lie: it makes me a little pissed that the Cubs didn't get him.
We probably would have traded Garza and gotten Turner and Castellanos and Olt and Theo's backbone out of the deal...

"Darvish became just the 11th man in major league history to lose a perfect game with two outs in the ninth inning."
"(Cubs '72) Milt Pappas and (NY Giants 1908) Hooks Wiltse remain the only two men ever to lose a perfect game with two outs in the ninth but still complete the no-hitter."
(To "lose" his perfect game is not (necessarily) the same as his team losing the game in this context. Perhaps the wordier "lose out on a bid for a perfect game" would be less ambiguous?)

It was a game against the Reds and I remember thinking that he might be hurt. He did have over 100 pitches in the 6th innings, so maybe Dusty might have cared a little.
I remember back in 2006 (I think) Prior had a no-hitter going but Dusty pulled him in the middle innings because he was just returning from injury. I'm pretty sure the Cubs lost. Anybody remember this game?
