Well, Starlin Castro made things interesting in the 9th with a two-run shot, but the Cubs could tack any more on.
Jason Hammel cruised today for five innings, but ran into trouble in the sixth, loading the bases and allowing a sacrifice fly before departing. His final line doesn’t look too great – 5.2 IP, 3 ER, 3 H, 2 BB, 5 K – but two of those three runs scored with two outs after Hammel had exited the game, each scoring off of a different Cubs relief pitcher. Not bad, all in all.
Justin Grimm threw a lockdown 8th inning, and Junior Lake hit a homer. That’s about all your good news from this one.
It’s been a really rough stretch for Mike Olt, and there’s a good news/bad news convergence happening …
