2015 Chicago Cubs Schedule Released – Open at Home Against St. Louis on April 6

cat calendarMLB has released its 2015 schedules – they are tentative and subject to change, but they generally stay the same – and there are a number of interesting things to note immediately about the Chicago Cubs’ schedule, and the schedule in general:

  • The Cubs open at home for just the 4th time in 14 years (it’s cold in Chicago in April, so I’m not sure the Cubs hate that they often open on the road, leaving more games to sell at home later in the season).
  • They open April 6 against the Cardinals. Wrigley Field will be rocking.
  • April 6, you’ll note, is a week later than things opened up in 2014. That seems to just be the way the calendar falls in 2015, though it’ll have the side benefit of cutting out a week’s worth of traditionally awful-weather games … and adding a week of bad-ish weather games at the back-end.
  • The Cubs’ season does not end until October 4, which means the World Series will likely last into November. I really think MLB would be better served if they could figure out a way to start the season in early April, and still end in October.
  • Because the season starts a week later, but the Trade Deadline (presumably) remains July 31, you’ll note that teams will have one fewer week in which to decide whether they are buyers or sellers. That could be particularly pertinent to a young team like the Cubs, which may find itself hovering around .500 come early July (hopefully, at least – or better).
  • The NL Central plays the AL Central in interleague next year, so the Cubs will get the White Sox six times, home and home.
  • The Cubs’ regular season winds down with them playing NL Central opponents in seven of their last eight series. If they are in a divisional race, that month is going to be bananas.
  • The full schedule is available here.

Why Craig Counsell Wanted Miles Mastrobuoni on the Cubs’ Bench

I don't know why Miles Mastrobuoni bugs some folks, but it's probably heavily-weighted toward his small-sample, bad-batted-ball-luck start last year, and that time he didn't dive while playing in right field. It can be hard to shake initial impressions, I...

Kinda Sounds Like Craig Counsell May Have a Set Top Three in the Batting Order
