With the offense’s recent struggles, it seemed like a 1-0 win was just about the only way the Cubs were going to win one. And, until Jake Arrieta departed after the 7th, it looked like that’s exactly how they might win. But Pedro Strop gave up a run in the 8th, and it looked like things were going the other way.
The despondence lasted only so long, though, because Starlin Castro led off the next inning with an opposite field blast to put the Cubs back up 2-1.
Earlier, I hoped that Jake Arrieta would have one of those crazy dominant outings, which, yeah, that’s pretty much how you do it. His curveball, in particular, was especially nasty today.
