On the basis of this small start sample, we might see this turn into a pitcher's duel.....

Talking about Leake going directly to the major leagues-

some scout (I can't remember who, maybe it was KLaw) said that Appel could make the majors the year he was drafted. I wonder if that's just bluster, or if people said the same about Leake when he was coming out?

People definitely said that about Leake coming out, but everyone pretty much agreed that his ceiling was a number three. He just had a very high floor.

Either way Leake throws a lot of strikes. Only 19 pitches thru two.

Wood keeping Reds hitters off balance. Neat.

Leake is the kind of pitcher I can get behind, honestly. He seems like a dude that just really makes the most of what his body gives him.

The cubs have been helping Leake swinging at borderline pitches. Castro, Rizzo were both jammed inside and Schierholtz and Valbuena chased bad pitches as well

....well.....I gotta' say if Travis Wood continues doing what he's doing and the offense becomes one that hangs him out to dry, that'll make me......&%$# mad.

With a 2-0 and 2-1 count Castro chased 2 pitches down and in. Luckily he still came through with RISP. Big Surprise.
