I remain thoroughly pleased with both the present and future of the Chicago Cubs, but games like today’s remind you that crummy baseball moments will still happen. Up 5-0 early, the Cubs managed to fritter this one away, and now leave St. Louis with a modestly discouraging series split, rather than a hell-yeah-future-baby 3-1 win.
Worse, the tying run came in on a Yadier Molina dribbler single up the middle, and the lead runs came in on a Matt Holliday grounder off the pitcher, which kicked into the outfield. There were some hostilities earlier in the game (including Holliday getting hit *very* unintentionally, but he was pissed, nevertheless), so this win will undoubtedly look swell to the Cardinals. Bully for them.
