Whether the Cubs are good or bad, and whether they’re expected to be good or bad going into the next season, one of my favorite annual events is the Cubs Convention. Round up a bunch of diehard Cubs fans, cram them all together in a hotel, put on a bunch of panel discussions, and let folks just have some Cubs-related fun in January. It’s one of those things that you know is a little silly, but is a blast if you just grant yourself permission to enjoy it and be nuts for a few days. (There are also always some quality bits of info, too.)
With the Cubs potentially looking like a plausibly competitive team at that point, the Convention this year could be even more fun. I’ll save you a seat in the front row at the Jon Lester panel. I kid. Maybe.
Today, passes for the weekend go on sale (and no, this isn’t an advertisement – I just go every year, and want as many BN’ers as possible there representing/having fun), and you should be able to buy them here starting at 10am CT, or by calling 1-800-THE-CUBS. It’s $65 (plus fees) for the weekend at the Sheraton Chicago Hotel & Towers downtown (or you can buy a hotel package).
The Convention runs January 16 to 18, and we’ll have a get-together or two over that weekend. I hope to see many of you there to become real-life friends, complete with candy necklaces and hand-holding.* I’ll have more on the specifics of the Convention as soon as they are released later this year.
*One of these years, anyway.
