Announced at a press conference this morning in South Bend, the Chicago Cubs’ new Low-A affiliate will be called the Cubs. The South Bend Cubs.
Formerly the Silver Hawks, I can see why the South Bend franchise would really want the branding opportunity of being called the Cubs. I’m a fan of crazy minor league names, myself, but, hey, Cubs ain’t bad.
The Cubs left Kane County in favor of South Bend last week, together with other affiliation changes. The Low-A one, however, seemed to be the one that hit home most, given its proximity to Chicago.
The new team’s logo should be forthcoming, as well as some additional details about the pairing. The uniforms are expected to resemble those of the big league team.
