This Hall of Famer, whom also managed the Cubs, amassed exactly 2,500 total bases in his career.

Cap had a lot more hits than 2500.

Ernie filled in after the actual manager got ejected does that count? He should have about that many hits as well.

Was he a Hall of Fame player? Or manager?

Did he play for the Cubs?  If so I guess Phil Cavaretta.

If he didn't, then it's either Piniella or Boudreau.  Man, total bases is a hard thing to estimate.  It almost has to be someone who was really good for a short amount of time.

Does it count when you make 3 guesses in one post and then two of those three aren't really guesses?

It was Lou Boudreau, good job!

If, as correctly stated, Anson had more than 2,500 hits, then he certainly had more than 2,500 total bases. Thus, I see nothing wrong with Cubbie Blues' using this to demonstrate that Anson was not the correct answer.

That's also assuming he wasn't on 2nd and stole 1st over 400 times. I would score that as a negative base.
