I remember back when the Cubs were courting Theo Epstein and that whole thing was going down, there was something of a breather – at least in terms of official news – during the World Series. It’s an unwritten rule that you try not to announce anything major during the World Series, so that the focus can be on those games. Obviously Joe Maddon opting out of his contract was a personal thing, and the rumors that followed were only that: rumors. So nobody’s really overstepped any bounds yet, but with everyone involved likely to want a quick resolution on the Maddon thing (since he’ll almost certainly be replacing another manager, wherever he goes), I wonder how this is going to play. I suppose it could be that we’ll hear something as a “rumor” with an official announcement delayed until after the World Series concludes.
