theo did not play baseball can't put belly fire on spreadsheets I have 60 years experience coaching baseball in youth leagues plus amateur scouting.  if quade were still the manager castro would be hitting .310 and playing gold glove defense

Well, eleven.  It fell apart with "I have 60 years experience..."

That's too, I dunno, coherent for Die hard.

If you type up an argument that a 6 year old would make, then take out every 3rd word, and add in a comment about belly fire or two, it works.

Add in some Carrie Nation/teetotaler crap and you're almost there.

Okay somebody that can post with proper formatting please paste the WWI thread coming on tonight. Oh and Luke's Ali v Campana analogy. Tonight is an epic dose of Die Hardism at it finest.

In the grand scheme of things baseball seems insignificant considering POTUS announcement tonite to aid Syria rebels meaning could be face to face with Russia… For history buffs similar taking sides led to WW1

Newsflash… In the grand scheme of things baseball is more significant and enduring than all the bullshit you’re stressing about and have no control over.

History buff – and one who specialized in Eastern European history and international relations at that.

This is no where remotely close to beginning to be barely related to anything vaguely similar to a passing resemblance of a bad recreation of a poor memory of what the global situation was at the beginning of World War 1.

Unless you boil it all the way down to “some countries did stuff and some other countries did other stuff”, the difference make that comparison roughly as totally absurd as comparing Tony Campana to Mohammad Ali just because they both wear gloves and hit things (although only occasionally in the case of Campana).

Which probably means I can expect a classic die hard epigram comparing Campana to Ali any day now…

Might be something better left for the message boards.

Briefly – It’s ugly and messy, but proxy wars usually are.

World War I happened for four MAIN reasons - completely different from Syria

Militarism – Military culture was huge in countries like England it was considered super manly and awesome if you were rich and became a military officer it was a huge status symbol if you had an officer in your family.
Alliances – Bunch of treaties signed in 19th century dragged a bunch of countries that would usually have no interest into the war making it even bigger.
Imperialism – They ran out of third world countriest to conquer so naturally they wanted to conquer each other.
Nationalism – Germany reunited only a few decades before the war broke out and they were looking to establish a national identity and pride by beating the shit out of their neighbors

I should note that I have a BA in History and took a graduate level course on WWI. I would recommend watching “Oh, What a Lovely War!” it’s satirical but sometimes satire is the most honest medium of pointing out how absurd the war was:

Also have a background in Eastern Euro-history (was briefly a military attache to Moscow in fact), couldn’t agree more with Luke: Russia doesnt go to war over this. Its also somewhat less enjoyable than cubs baseball right now…

Imperialism was the root cause of WW1 — large countries wanting to expand influence in the world by manipulating smaller countries or opposition groups within such countries…Sounds like what’s starting to brew with Russia already all in and Iran using Hezbollah to push agenda and US Britain and France using the opposition to create a new ally against Iran…
