Holy hell, that's two days in a row without a home run reference.  I'm beginning to think the calendar won't ever reference them again...

Which Cubs Hall of Famer has the second highest lifetime batting average behind Ty Cobb's .366?

I'll venture my old standby guess

Cap Anson

How about Rogers Hornsby?

Definitely Hornsby, but kind of cheap to call him a Cub Hall-of-Famer. Definitely a cardinal (ouch). I would guess Riggs Stephenson would be 2nd on the list (if you only include post 1900 guys.

Bill Madlock comes in at #2 per fangraphs. He spent 3 of his first 4 years with the Cubs. Stephenson is 3rd on the list. My guess is all the way down at #6.

Can you guess the other 2 in the top 6?

I really don't think you will get these two. If you do you can color me impressed.

So, they must be pre 1900 guys, which I'm really weak on (no, it's not right up my alley you basturd).  So, I'd guess Kelly, but he's prolly not obscure enough - so maybe Bill (?) Lange is one?

You suck.

Yes, Bill Lange is one with .331

By the way, Stephenson was at .336 and Anson had a .329

The one at #4 came after Lange.

Just curious how far off was Kiki Cuyler?   For the other guy, there's someone I am trying to think of guy's name - probably wrong anyway, but I can't think of his name.  He played third and hit homers (for that era)... drawing a blank.  I give.

Cuyler just missed the arbitrary cutoff. He is at #7 with a .325. #4 is Ray Grimes who played 1B for the Cubs from 1921-1924. He had 6 years of pro-ball. He had a career batting average of .331.
