Insomnia drove me to espn who says a "source" says Cubs have offered Sveum the job. Wonder how true this is.

I guess I should start to learn how to pronounce Sveum.

meaning nothing, obviously, but Brett and Jon Heyman and others were all speculating this about an hour before a source "confirmed" it

I believe he specializes in teaching people how to hit baseballs really, really frikken hard. Other than that, I'm not sure. I for one was rather disappointed with everything I heard about him.

There was a lot of crap about him being a "player's manager" although others described him as "tactically astute". I'm a bit scared about the fact the Brewers passed him over for someone as rubbish as Roenicke. But maybe they're just stupid. They did hire Roenicke after all.

Actually, the only candidate that didn't trip my trigger was the guy from the Phillies. I'm fine with any of the other candidates, and trust the interview process. If he's good enough for Theo & Jed, he's good enough for me.

Besides, anything is better than Quade using his Magic 8 Ball to make decisions.

Thanks for posting this as soon as you saw it, YeOld. I'd love for things like this to go up on the Message Board if I'm not able to get to them first. Very pleased with this thread.

I do what I can for this site.
Loyal fan for a while.

Any chance this move would attract Prince Fielder to Chicago?
And do you think Sveum would be up for a name change to Wrigley Fields?

At most, Sveum coming could be a tie-breaker for Prince. That is to say, if the money were the same between two choices, with a roughly equivalent team makeup and city, then maybe Sveum tilts the scales in the Cubs' favor.

Problem is, I believe other teams will offer him more money than the Cubs. So, Sveum will be a non-issue.

What's with the Cubs choosing managers whose names aren't pronounced the way they look, by the way?
