Nate Silver wrote an article http://fivethirtyeig...he-stanley-cup/

in which he examines the reasons why no Canadian team has won the Stanley Cup in the last 20 years. He thoroughly analyzes the problem from various angles. One possible explanation paradoxically stems from the great popularity of hockey in Canada. Why do I mention this on a Cubs' website? Because the article mentions the Cubs several times.

One quote from the article:

"So the Canadian N.H.L. teams may suffer from a version of the problem that the Chicago Cubs faced during the “bleacher bum” years. Their fans are so loyal — happy enough to turn out for the spectacle and the beer even if the team stinks — that the franchises don’t have all that much incentive to put out a competitive product."

Anybody else remember when Nate Silver predicted a Cubs/Red Sox World Series in 2007?  The Curse is more powerful than MATH

Nate Silver has predicted like 98 out of 100 states correctly in the last two Presidential elections...sure there are some gimmes...but his use of polls, percentages and probabilities are unreal.

The Cubs should hire him, pay him $1 million plus, and have him develop a formula for predicting prospect success...

I am not joking, it would be successful.

You probably already know this, but for the benefit of other readers,

"PECOTA, an acronym for Player Empirical Comparison and Optimization Test Algorithm, is a sabermetric system for forecasting Major League Baseball player performance... PECOTA was developed by Nate Silver in 2002-2003 and introduced to the public in the book Baseball Prospectus 2003."  -- Wikipedia

If Silver works for a MLB team it would most likely be the Tigers, who he grew up rooting for
