The MLB Pipeline crew is going through it’s positional rankings, which are a lot of fun – especially when your team has a lot of top prospects.
Today’s installment is third base, which means it’s another day to fawn all over the beast that is Kris Bryant. After winning every award after his first full professional year – including, somehow, the Grammy for Best New Artist – it’s time to claim another honor. Perhaps the most obvious one: he’s the top third base prospect in baseball, according to MLB.com. You can see the full list and write-up here to see those who trail Bryant.
Among the comments from Jim Callis: “Of the three players considered among baseball’s best prospects – Twins outfielder Byron Buxton and Astros shortstop Carlos Correa are the others – Bryant will make the swiftest impact. Ready for Wrigley Field right now, he should hit for a lot of power, draw plenty of walks and play a capable third base.”
Bryant will come to big league Spring Training with a nominal shot at winning the third base job on the big team, but everyone expects that he’ll head back to AAA Iowa for a little final seasoning before taking over the gig sometime in late April or early May.
And now a video on Bryant for good measure:
