Sweeney, who'll be out for 4-6 weeks needs to be put on the DL for his cracked rib

Putnam has been on the 15 day DL over 15 days, DeJesus has been out exactly 15 days for his shoulder.

Camp needs to be DFA'd, for real.

---AAA---

Clevenger hurt, again? Last played 6/21.

Vitters on the DL, last played 5/24.

Rusin has a 3.27 ERA in 17 starts with a 1.10 WHIP

Logan Watkins: .286/.302/.548, 3 HR, 5 RBI, 1 SB in his last 10 games.

Junior Lake has cooled: .231/.268/.436, 2 HR, 6 RBI, 2 CS in his last 10 games.

Lake is not ready for Chicago.  He needs to be playing daily in Iowa, not sitting on the bench in the majors.

Watkins would be my choice to replace Sweeney.

I'd be all for a Camp DFA and waiver claim on Alex Liddi. Then possibly try sneaking Borbon through waivers and giving Schlitter or Negrin an opportunity, could alternatively bring up Raley and keep an open roster spot for players who will need removed by teams buying though this trade season.

With DeJesus returning soon I think its time to stop carrying 6 outfielders. That being said, Ransom being DFA'd to pick up Liddi wouldn't disappoint me either. I understand Ransom has played well, but I feel in trade Liddi wound be well beyond what you could expect in return in both talent and potential upside. Just some thoughts.

Wow, Camp has really fallen out of favor quite quickly.

Cost - Savings - Total - Player - '13 WAR
10.25 - 0.550 = 9.70M - Matt Garza - 0.6
09.80 - 0.550 = 9.250 - Carlos Marmol - -0.7
18.00 - 10.00 = 8.00M - Alfonso Soriano - 0.6
06.50 - 0.550 = 5.950 - David DeJesus - 1.1
06.00 - 0.550 = 5.45M - Scott Feldman - 1.1
05.50 - 0.550 = 4.95M - Scott Baker
02.50 - 0.550 = 1.950 - Scott Hairston - -0.7
02.25 - 0.550 = 1.700 - Nate Schierholtz - 1.8
01.75 - 0.550 = 1.20M - Dioner Navarro - 0.8
01.35 - 0.550 = 0.80M - Shawn Camp - -0.8

2.640 - 3.430 = -.790 - Jeff Samardzija (raise) - 2.4
0.550 - 1.075 = -.525 - Travis Wood (raise) - 1.8
0.750 - 1.250 = -.500 - Anthony Rizzo (raise) - 1.5
1.075 - 1.400 = -.325 - James Russell (raise) - 0.9
0.930 - 1.209 = -.279 - Luis Valbuena (raise) - 1.7
0.562 - 0.731 = -.169 - Darwin Barney (raise) - 0.8
0.503 - 0.654 = -.151 - Welington Castillo (raise) - 1.0

$46.211M in Savings [did not include players not getting an arb raise or contract has repeat AAV for next year] if we were to replace these players with minor league replacements next year.

As you can see, keeping Nate Schierholtz for next year makes sense, because he'll make less than $5M next year in his last year of arbitration.

Will he be good next year though? That is the big question.
