One of my friends gets terribly annoyed when I use the terms "we" or "us" when talking about the cubs... I've always done this with my favorite teams.

ie: "Looks like we just signed David DeJesus to play right field" or "We really weren't that good in 2011"

I tend to do this a lot and have been noticing it lately. Am I the weird one for doing this, or is he the weird one for having a problem with it?

I do the same thing a lot. I thought everybody did it until someone pointed it out to me. I don't really have a problem with it. I feel that fans are a big part of a team. I can also see why people have a problem with it since we, the fans, aren't out there practicing and playing like members on the team.

At one point I felt a bit self conscious about it. But really, it's the best way to express yourself when talking about your favorite team.

I'm on the fence about the whole thing. It's easy,natural, and economical to use pronouns when writin, but it's also kind of pompous to include yourself in the same group as Ricketts, Epstein, and others. I find myself going between using "we" and "us" when referring to the moves and decisions the Cubs make and saying "the Cubs," but I'm not someone who gets angry when people use the pronouns. We are all fans and are free to express our fandom in any way we desire.

And when the Cubs win the World Series I will be saying "We won the World Series"

When writing about the Cubs in a blogging capacity, I avoid it. But when talking about the Cubs as a fan on boards like this, I often use "us" and "we."

The Cubs don't exist without the fans. That's about as "we" as it gets.

I do it all the time and I don't care if anyone makes fun of me for it. I already get enough shit from people for being a Cubs fan in the first place!

I don't generally have a problem with it, but there are some people that take it to the extreme which gets annoying. On the other hand, it is also annoying to hear someone throw a fit about another fan doing it. Having to hear "you're not a part of the team" every time I hear a conversation about sports gets old. It's not that big of a deal, and I can see why people do it, just don't take it to the extreme, and I won't have to think you're crazy.

I think it goes both ways. I know all my sox fan friends and family are always making comments like "your team sucks this year", "when is your team going to do something right", etc...

I think it is just part of being a passionate fan.

Sounds like most of you feel the same way I do. I just never even noticed it until they pointed it out!

This guy that gets bothered by it doesn't even really follow any sports whatsoever, so that probably explains part of why he doesn't "get it".

I generally refer to the Cubs as "we", unless I'm in the presence of one of the Ricketts', or Epstein, or Hoyer, or Sveum, or Wood, or Dempster, etc. etc. Yeah right, as if I've ever been in the presence of any of the aforementioned, so I guess my answer would be... Yeah, I refer to the Cubs as "we" all the time.

I spent over a $1000 at Wrigley last year watching a 71-win team so I feel entitled to call them "us" or "we"...
although the Ricketts family spent over $150 million at Wrigley last year so I'm not sure how they would feel about it.
