Sorry I wasn't able to post this yesterday, I got dragged out of bed at 9am for a wedding that didn't start until 2 (BARFFF)

This former catcher was not only highly regarded for his defensive capabilities, but he was also credited as being the first to throw from the squatting position.

I cheated and looked it up because it sounded interesting.  I shan't say who it was. Cool question.

I'll give a hint: He precedes Gabby

Yeah, I figured this guy was gonna be hard.  While he did get MVP votes for his tenure with the Cubs, he was overshadowed by much bigger stars on the team. I'm not going to give the answer away until Spriggs throws the towel.

Here's a couple hints:

1. He was an unlikely big leager since he's a native of Dublin, Ireland and grew up in Canada

2. He was on the losing side of the 1907 World Series vs. the Cubs as member of the Tigers

3. He has the same last name as a Cubs prospect who was dealt away a couple years ago

[BUZZING SOUND]

Jimmy Archer!  He had freakish arm strength due to an industrial accident that jacked up his muscles in a good way.
