In honor of the upcoming trade deadline, what is the best trade the FO has made since they took over 1.5 seasons ago?

I think the trade with the best tangible results has been the Sean Marshall for Travis Wood, Dave Sappelt, and Ronald Torreyes. Wood is an All-Star, has been lights out this season, and is under team control until 2017.

I think the trade with the best potential in the future is the Ryan Dempster for Kyle Hendricks and Christian Villanueva. Villanueva was the #100 prospect in baseball Pre-2012 and Hendricks is starting for his All-Star squad at AA.

What are your favorites?

The Marmol trade was a great move even if Guerrier spontaneously combusts the next time he steps on the mound.

As of today, I'd say the Marshall trade is clearly the best. Getting an all-star starting pitcher for a reliever is definitely  a win (no matter how good that reliever was).

On potential, I'm still holding out hope that Vizcaino gets healthy and we get a solid player out of that deal.

And while I like the deal, I wouldn't call the Rizzo-Cashner deal a win for the Cubs quite yet. Rizzo has shown some flaws and Cashner has pitched well at times (granted pitching at Petco helps that).  I think it will favor the Cubs in the end, but not the slam dunk you might have thought a year ago.

Those guys we got for Campy are looking promising.

I'm gonna have to wait and see on the Vizcaino deal before making a verdict here.

I think the Rizzo-Cashner trade is based on perspective. Would you rather have a pretty good #3 starting pitcher who is young and could still improve some, or a slugging first baseman? So far I think the Cubs are winning this trade, but both have a lot to prove still and much growing to do. It's going to end up a pretty even swap.

Marshall for Wood, Sappelt and Torreyes is far and away tops.

Best so far is Marshall for Wood, Sappelt and Torreys

However, the trade of Dempster for Hendricks and Villanueva is impressive considering all that occurred leading up to it.  The return has not been beneficial at the big league level yet like the Marshall trade has been but getting those 2 at the last minute was a good get.

The Garza trade is my favorite.  Wait, what's that?  It didn't happen yet?  Well, it's still my favorite.

No, but all kidding aside, getting Travis Wood has been awesome.

1. Erick Leal and the other guy for Tony Campana.

2. Anthony Rizzo for Andrew Cashner.

3. Travis Wood, Ronald Torreyes, Dave Sappelt for Sean Marshall.

4. Jake Arrieta and Pedro Strop for Scott Feldman.

5. Kyle Hendricks and Christian Villanueva for Geovany Soto and Ryan Dempster.

It's interesting that no one has picked Maholm/Johnson for Vizcaino. My guess is that more people would have picked that one if Maholm hadn't pitched so well since the trade.

Marshall for Wood thus far.  If Rizzo irons out his flaws, then that will be my top pick for best trade.

the more likely reason no one has picked it is because Vizcaino has yet to pitch.

It's a combo. Maholm has been pitching pretty well since that trade, and was pitching lights out when traded, and I think many are getting skeptical that Vizcaino will ever be a contributor at the major league level with his injury issues.

So far it's a win for the Braves. If we ever see Vizcaino pitch, will be a different story.
