As sometimes happens in the Spring, the Cubs and Diamondbacks got together to add a “B” game to the schedule today, which will allow each team to get in some playing time for guys who need it, but who might not have otherwise been accommodated by the Cactus League schedule. The Cubs will play their regularly-scheduled game against the A’s this afternoon.
The Cubs played a “B” game last week against the Angels, where Kris Bryant added another homer. It doesn’t count for his Cactus League stats, but he’s got homers to spare as it is.
Because it’s a “B” game, it won’t be broadcast in any traditional way that I’m aware of, but, on the bright side, if you’re in the Mesa area, you can just show up and watch the game at Sloan Park. Hopefully some BN’ers will be there to give us the scoop on how guys are playing. I’d imagine there will be some media there, as well, just as there was for the Angels game last week.
Kyle Hendricks gets the start in this one, and, in addition to some regulars, Daniel Bard is once again available out of the pen. His appearance last week didn’t go so well, so here’s hoping for another chance at a good first step.
The lineup:
- Arismendy Alcantara, LF
- Matt Szczur, CF
- Mike Olt, 3B
- David Ross, C
- Mike Baxter, 1B
- Stephen Bruno, 2B
- Jonathan Herrera, SS
- Rubi Silva, RF
- Kyle Hendricks, P
Arismendy Alcantara sees work in left field to increase his versatility further, which I love.
