The bad news is already out there.
Sports Illustrated has the Chicago Bears pegged for a 2-14 record, which would tie them with the Cleveland Browns and San Francisco 49ers as the worst in the NFL. However, the good news is that there is one source that doesn’t believe the Bears will be quite that bad.
Bovada recently released its projections, which set the number of Bears wins at 5.5. That’s one win better than both the Browns and 49ers. So maybe the Bears won’t be the worst team in football next season. OK, that’s not great … but it’s not worst-in-the-league bad. And if you’re willing to make a wager that the 2017 Bears will play better than a 5.5-win team, you could win $110 for every $100 spent if you were willing to wager the over and the team muscled up and collected six wins.
That’s good value, even if it isn’t a great bet.
On the riskier side of things, the odds of quarterback Mitch Trubisky winning the NFL’s Rookie of the Year award are set at 16-1. There are 10 players who have better odds than the first-year signal caller who projects to spend the year on the bench, including fellow quarterbacks Deshaun Watson (5.5-1) and DeShone Kizer (14-1).
Vegas Insider has an updated look at Super Bowl odds, too. The Bears are expectedly a long-shot dark horse at 125-1 to win the Super Bowl, and 60-1 to win their first NFC Championship since the 2006 season. When it comes to Super Bowl odds, only four teams are worse than the Bears: the the New York Jets and Los Angeles Rams are at 150-1, while the San Francisco 49ers and Cleveland Browns (300-1) have the longest odds.
Of course, if you have your eyes on a short-term wager, the Bears are 6.5-point underdogs at home Week 1 against the Atlanta Falcons.
