I am a long time regular reader of BN, but I typically don't like to post on message boards. I figured this might be somewhat worth breaking my posting silence.
Last night during the 8th inning of the Kane County/Burlington game (which also happened to be my first KC game), a skunk appeared to crawl up from the wall next to the first base dugout. In a surprise to the crowd, nearly the entire seating section behind that area all leaped up and someone yelled "SKUNK!":
So after that, all chaos broke loose. The Burlington players on the field were scrambling around to keep their distance, except for the shortstop who froze in place and just covered his mouth and nose with his jersey:
At that point the grounds crew had no idea what to do, so one of the guys started running towards the outfield while the skunk was patrolling the warning track and they finally were able to chase it (while keeping their distance) out the center field fence.
Kurt Spomer, who was pitching for Burlington at the time appeared on Twitter after the game to comment on his unusual outing:
Definitely a bizarre experience. I thought I had seen every bizarre possible sideshow imaginable at a minor league baseball game, but this one was a new one for me. Oh and for those who wondered, KC lost 6-5 in 10 innings.
