As we all know the Winter Meetings are finally upon us, isn't it just the best. With all the rumors flying around, this is what I would like to see the Cubs do at the meetings this year.

Alfonso Soriano- Traded As, Os, or Angels
Carlos Zambrano- Traded to Marlins for prospects
Matt Garza- Traded to NYY for Jesus Montero and prospects
Geovany Soto & Carlos Marmol- Traded for prospects
Randy Wells, Tyler Colvin- Traded to Padres for Chase Headley
Yoenies Cespedes-Signed to 5-7 year deal with cubs
Prince Fielder- Signed to 6yr $175 mil contract
Blake DeWitt- Traded to COL for Ian Stewart
Cj Wilson/Mark Burlehe/ Yu Darvish- It is my belief that the Cubs will sign at least one of these players this week (or in Darvish's case when/if he is posted)

This could be a very big week for the Cubs and the moves made this week could put the Cubs in a place to compete in the NL Central next year.

Lineup:
DeJesus RF
Castro SS
Headley 3B
Fielder 1B
Stewart 2B
Cespedes CF
Montero C
Jackson LF

I know they traded someone but I think it was somebody else. There may be an edit forthcoming

UPDATED: Iannetta was traded... I meant Ian Stewart though

That's a lot to happen in four days. None of it, alone, is unrealistic.

If I'm betting, I'd say this week, the Cubs sign a lesser pitcher (not even sure who), trade for Chase Headley or Ian Stewart, and dump Soriano. Additional groundwork is laid on others.

What do you think about Roy Oswalt? He could be a pretty good bounce back candidate, and I'm sure the cubs could get him for a reasonable 1 or 2 year deal

I'm really curious as to who is in your rotation with Matt Garza, Carlos Zambrano AND Randy Wells all going to other teams in trades.

Sam,

That is definitely an active few days for Jed & Theo. I don't have my hopes up quite that high but I would be ecstatic if we could trade both Z & Sori in the same winter meetings. All depdns on just how much of each contract we are willing to eat as a 'sunk cost' just to be done with them.

You also trade Garza, Z & Wells so the rotation would be Dempster, 1 of CJ/Darvish/Buerhle, Cashner?, Shark?, Coleman? Not alot of rotation depth there which could lead to the same injury issues as last year.

Thats why I didn't try and predict a rotation. Id like to see the cubs keep garza BUT id rather have Montero. I think the pitching rotation may be filled with new members: possibly Roy Oswalt, Gio Gonzalez, or Trevor Cahill in addition to Mark Burlehe, Cj Wilson, and Yu Darvish.

I'd be ok with sending Z to the Marlins if it brought back Nolasco who is a proven commodity at the MLB level at least. I also assume we wouldn't have to eat as much of his contract as we would for better prospects.

Garza to the Yankees would need to include probably 2 of their better pitching prospects as well, though the names escape me at the moment. Maybe one of them goes straight into the back end of the rotation for a trial by fire.

I don't think we have the prospects to get Gio or Cahill from the A's if we are going to be in acquiring youngsters mode like the majority of our other moves are doing, but then again if we can flip some of them its possible I suppose.

What I think will happen vice what I hope happens is Garza stays, along with Demp and Wells but Z gets traded to the Marlins but doesn't bring back Nolasco. None of the big name FA SPs come to the North Side so that takes out the 3 you mentioned but Bedard signs to an incentive laden deal that is Low Risk High Reward and the 5th spot is filled by one of our young guys Cashner/Shark/Coleman.

I think the big acquisition will be Headley. Sori leaving groundwork will be laid. Marmol traded, Soto traded. Z still on the team. Pass on Pujols and Fielder. Not saying I agree with the moves, just that I think this is realistic.
