As expected after last night’s option of Matt Szczur to Iowa, Chris Denorfia has returned to the Cubs, and has been activated from the disabled list in advance of today’s game against the Nationals.
Denorfia, 34, will immediately become one of the – probably the – top right-handed options off of the bench for the Cubs, and will likely platoon with Chris Coghlan in left field. Before he re-injured the hamstring that took him down early in the season, Denorfia had upped his season line with the Cubs to .429/.455/.476. That came in a modest 22 plate appearances, though, and is built on the back of a .643 BABIP.
For his career, Denorfia is a .273/.333/.395 hitter.
