Earlier today, I quipped that there was not likely much of an overlap between the readership here at Baseball is Fun and the viewership of ABC’s Dancing with the Stars (now featuring former Cubs catcher David Ross!). But I have a feeling that there’s probably quite a few Game of Thrones fans in the house.
After all, if you’re an active human being on Earth you either 1) love Game of Thrones or 2) don’t know nothing about nothing (come @ me).
So then, most of you should be happy to learn that the people of Westeros and Major League Baseball will be forging an alliance stronger than the strongest Valyrian steel.

Indeed, according to multiple reports on Twitter, at least 19 teams will participate in a GoT/MLB cross-promotional partnership with HBO.
For example:

And the rest of the teams include (h/t Cut4) the D-backs, Red Sox, Reds, White Sox, Astros, Dodgers, Royals, Marlins, Brewers, Twins, Athletics, Phillies, Pirates, Mariners, Giants, Cardinals, Rangers, Rays and Nationals.
According to Deadline Hollywood, “Specific promotional offerings have yet to be determined — and will vary by team. But they’ll include development of collectible and co-branded merchandise, ticket packages, giveaways, theme nights, and social media events.”

There are many reasons why this sort of partnership can be mutually beneficial, but one such point is that the large number of millennials that have long been fans of Game of Thrones is exactly the demographic most missing from MLB’s portfolio.
Good on MLB for making a savvy, if out-of-the-box move.
