There were two more rain outs yesterday, and that brings the weekly rain out total to a depressingly large number that I don’t want to think about.
And of the two games that we did get, the Cubs’ affiliate lost both. Even worse, that loss left Tennessee 3.5 games out of first place with just 9 left to play before the All-Star break.
Nothing washes the taste of rain-logged sadness away like a little Prospect Trivia, though, so this seems like the time to do another one. Like last time, the answers will appear in the Bullets later this morning. This will be a fairly easy one to cheat on, but I am confident you won’t.
Since we just wrapped up the draft, I think a draft themed question is appropriate.
Using Wins Above Replacement as the measuring stick, name the five best players to be drafted by the Cubs in the first round (including the supplemental rounds) from 2000 to the present. Oh, and be sure to list them in order.

Iowa – In Iowa, it rained.
Tennessee – The Smokies were tied in the eighth, but they lost this one 5-2.
Myrtle Beach – A late rally came up short as the Pelicans lost 7-4.
South Bend – South Bend was also rained out.
Performances of Note
[Tennessee] Kyle Schwarber pinch hit for Willson Contreras in this one (I’m not sure why Contreras was pulled) and finished 1 for 3 with a double.
[Tennessee] Jacob Hannemann finished 2 for 4. Elliot Soto also had 2 hits.
[Tennessee] The big news, and it is good news, from this game is that Pierce Johnson has returned! He threw 54 pitches over 3 innings, allowing 3 hits and a walk and striking out 2.
[Myrtle Beach] Paul Blackburn allowed 6 runs in 5 innings as the starter (most of those as a result of his inability to get an out at the start of the sixth), but reliever Michael Heesch followed that up with two innings of no-hit relief. Heesch did give up a run on 2 walks, though.
[Myrtle Beach] Mark Zagunis doubled twice and finished 2 for 5. Chesny Young doubled in his 2 hit game, and Victor Caratini just had 2 more hits.

Ok, I feel a little guilty about this Prospect Trivia. Unless you are a mega-draft junky or have been following the Cubs very closely for the past decade and a half and have a great memory, you are going to have trouble. So … I’m going to give you three hints. Two of the players are so iconic to the Cubs you don’t need to be a prospect guru to instantly recognize their names. Two of them have had a direct and significant impact on the Cubs’ current roster. And two of them never actually played for the Chicago Cubs. I’m sure those hints cleared things up nicely for you. I feel better already.
