I heard 'em called Chicago's Fugazi, but I don't think they're all that similar.

So Naked Raygun goes kaput, John Haggerty (guitar) gets together with his brother, Joe (recently split from his band, Effigies) to form Pegboy.  In '90 they put out a remarkable pair of records that were ultimately joined for the CD release Strong Reaction/Three Chord Monte.  Tremendous music.  I don't think their second album, Earwig, or their other EP, Fore! (even though Albini played on it), ever held up to these two.

Still one of Chicago's greatest bands.  And Joe Haggerty is a damn good plumber.

Title track from Strong Reaction:

Probably my favorite of their songs.  The best punk instrumental ever:

More good stuff. That instrumental puts me in the mind of the theme song from Buffy the Vampire Slayer by Nerf Herder, which is also a pretty damned good song.

You not familiar with Pegboy?  I'm kinda surprised -- I thought we'd discussed them before.

Hrm... maybe I'm misremembering a conversation I had with Hardtop (who seems to be long gone from these parts).

I'd heard the name, but if I'd heard their music before, I'd long since forgotten.

While I'm thinking about it, here's some love from 1986:

Ha.  I had a hand-drawn 7 Seconds t-shirt as a freshman in HS.

Sweet.

I still listen to that album. They had other good stuff, but that's the one I go back to.
