The official roster move seals it:
Kyle Schwarber has been promoted to the Chicago Cubs.
He’s not starting tonight, but he’ll be available off of the bench. The expectation is that tomorrow, and for most (all?) of the four days thereafter, Schwarber will be the Cubs’ designated hitter as they travel to Cleveland and Minnesota.
Enjoy this stretch while it’s happening, Cubs fans, because the plan is for Schwarber to head to AAA Iowa after the final game against the Twins. In the interim, he could actually really help the team.
Brian Schlitter heads back to AAA Iowa to make room for Schwarber returning the bullpen to a slightly less crazy eight relievers. Schlitter helped the Cubs win Sunday night’s game, and he’ll remain one of the team’s emergency depth options for now.
