Wound he have anything left in the tank for the Cubs in 2014?

Young is about to be a free agent, and I still want him as our opening day 3rd baseman.

However, his batting average with the Phillies has sagged as the season has progressed, leading many to believe this could be the end of the end for him. He still has walked at a decent rate this year, and while his .385 SLG% isn't anything to write home about, it's still better than anyone currently in our infield sans Rizzo. And let's face it, Mike Olt is clearly not ready for the big leagues.

Thoughts?

We have a plethora of 2B/SS/3B positional players and Young is on the wrong side of 30 and could be guaranteed consistent starts and I think he wants to be more than a bench super utility guy.

He's also on the decline and not a defensive sub so I'd say pass, we've got enough problems with the 40 man and adding Young doesnt help.

Young wants to be on a winner this late in his career and I think we can get better production out of Valbuena as the stopgap 3B/backup infielder
