Across the top six levels of the Cubs’ farm system, from Triple A Iowa to Rookie League Arizona, there were no games yesterday. Not one. Not even an inning. Nothing. As it turns out, minor league baseball takes the day off for the major league All-Star game (and every year I forget that they do that). We weren’t really fast-forwarded into the baseball-less depths of winter, it just felt like it for a day.
Despite that lack of games, there is some minor league news to report. We already knew that Arismendy Alcantara and Carlos Pimentel had been named to the Pacific Coast League All-Star team, but last night Tommy Birch, the Iowa Cubs writer for the Des Moines Register, reported on Twitter that Pimentel would be the starting pitcher.
And that’s pretty much all I’ve got. Now I’m going to go stare forlornly out the window and wait patiently for spring baseball to return.
