At least that's on of the things this piece seems to say about the Tigers, now a decade removed from a 43-119 season.

In the 10 seasons since the 119 loss debacle, the Tigers have gone to the playoffs 4 times, and the World Series once and may be on the way to their second World Series.

To me, the key for them has been Miggy Cabrera and Verlander, the article does point out a very nice group of other players brought in by trade, but having an elite, perennial Cy Young contender, and the game's most prolific hitter make it a lot easier to find complimentary pieces.

Will the Cubs draft a Verlander? Or parlay their stockpile of prospects into quality major league players?

The other thing worth noting from this article is this... "Ilitch’s win-now attitude motivated him to carry payrolls well beyond his market size, giving Dombrowski leeway not to rely on minimum-salary players."   I'm not sure that we're going to see Theo to spend freely based on the budgets Ricketts will allow him.
