Well it's been slowly happening but the main page will be nearly devoid of good commenting until the winning returns, the voices of the complaints and chicken little followers are now the loudest and have a strong collection of followers. My home is over run with dipshits, it's impossible to having anything resembling a conversation... oh well Sunday rant over.

I'm just going to have to spend more time on the message board.

This is the perils of any website that becomes popular.  I stopped reading the comments months ago.  Also, dd Die hard finally give up?  Haven't seen them around recently

I think you'll find a void in good commenting even when the Cubs start winning.  Too many people discuss things with their heart and don't think about the profession of baseball. It's more than just a "playing ball", it's finances, marketing, player development, strategic planning and understanding what it takes to win over the course of a season.

Then when thinking with their heart they spew their thoughts and forget to treat others with respect and to actually listen with their heads. It's disappointing, but after a while you learn who to follow and who to skip over to get real enjoyment and good information.

What happened to my Cubs Home?

It's a victim of its own success. It had to happen, sooner or later.

Here are some John Prine songs regarding home to make you feel better:

It's crazy over there. I have been called a troll twice in the last month! I usually just scan for the familiar faces.

This happened to me the last two blogathons too. I've been around these parts for a fairly long time, like most of you, and I found myself having to not comment because it was a whole new environment. But Brett and Luke do just as good a job as always, I'm not going anywhere soon.

Oh die hard is still strong, not as many emoji but still pathetic predictions. And yes we all knew this is part of a blogs success and the bad seasons don't help but shit the brains and other bitches are just so fucking tiresome.

I stopped reading the comments a while ago.  Too much squabbling and name calling.

Love John Prine.  Can't say it enough.

Ha, no, just my knee jerk reaction to any list of John Prine songs that doesn't include Storm Windows.

There is a "home" connection there:

I grew up on a four-lane highway. Lots of trucks. Lots of traffic. I used to have these spells every so often as a child where like the ceiling of the room was in normal perspective, but the doorway would appear much farther away than it was. Coupled with this, all noises seemed muffled and distant, particularly the traffic moving on the wet or snow-covered pavement. I was really in another world. I finally worked up the courage to tell my mother and father about it, and Mom made Dad take me to the eye doctor. I love them both. "I can hear the wheels of the automobiles....... So far away.......... Moving along through the drifting snow."
~John Prine

Take five straight years of suck, and a plan that stays the course (and is necessarily very unexciting to the masses), and this is the result. That the site is more popular now than it once was only increases the volume - but five out of ten comments were going to be bile whether there were 100 comments or 1000.

I get around a fair bit, and this is the culture of the online Cubs world in 2013.

When the Cubs become competitive on the field again, that ratio will slide to 3 or 2 out of 10, because a huge number of the meatballs won't be blindly bitching - they'll be discussing the games and the roster. I leave it to you whether that's any better, and there will always be some stupid venom wherever you allow people to speak.
