#1

The rangers get : Garza, Marshall and their chose of Lake, Vitters, or Dolis.
Cubs get Martin Perez LHP, Neil Ramirez RHP, Michael Olt 3B, cubs chose of Robbie Ross LHP or Miguel de Los Santos LHP and chose between Luis Sardinas SS or Tommy Mendonca 3B.
Before jumping all over me please look up these players.

Would be nice to get Profar included, but that's a huge haul. I know folks would be pissed to see Garza and Marmol dealt, but picking up three very good pitching prospects, a very good 3B prospect, and another good prospect (if Sardinas is a legit SS prospect, he'd be my pick)? You've gotta pull that trigger, and then figure out what it means for the rest of the offseason. Here is a idea for a trade between the Rangers and Cubs.

As the rosters are currently constructed, the division is not winnable for the Cubs short of Old Testament wrath on the Brewers, Cardinals, and Reds.I don't want to trade Garza anymore....not unless we get a servicable replacement....our division is winnable...we don't play in the AL East...

It is but for the Cards, Brewers and Reds. The Cubs are in the same tier as the Astro. They are in no posistion to contend this year. Let's say they get Fielder then the have a big power hitter with no protection behind him. The cubs don't win the position battle over all with any other team in the Central with the exception of the Astros.

Cin has gotten better...St Louis lost their MGR and their Jordan, and the Brewers swapped Fielder for Aram....

with all due respect, we don't even know what their final roster is going to be...how can we say they have no chance?....if they go into the season with what you have now...sure, they can't contend....let's see what the roster looks like end of January...

Right, Chris...I want to see where we're going, too. To me...it's not late in the off-season until the middle of January. There's plenty of time to see how things unfold.
If we do pick up Fielder, then I'd like it to be part of an even bigger spending spree. If we don't, and we're truly looking at a rebuilding/modeling year in 2012, then I'm open to trading Garza for more building blocks.

The Cubs are as good as the management let's them be, best bullpen in the league, chance to have one of the better rotations if used right and can stay healthy. The biggest issue is getting guys across the plate to give the pitching some support. This includes playing small ball, stealing bases, being patient. I have no doubt we end up at least 20 games better than we did with the Quade/Riggins combo. We have to quit losing to teams who suck themselves, we can't hand games to division rivals after we've lead the entire game. It always seems that it's the same guys on these other teams killing us. I don't think Sveum and the other coaches are gonna let that happen anymore... ...Still have a couple key spots to clean up but the idea is to compete and build so we can stay competitive!
First off we don't even have the best SPing in the division, the Cards and Brewers have better SPing then the Cubs. Hell, the Reds by adding Latos has a rotation equal to most likey better then the Cubs.
Second, the problem wasn't Quade last yr or even Riggins it was that the Cubs were a bad team with a lot of holes. We didn't fix any of those hole and don't have the sources to fix them all. Hell if we get Fielder it doesn't fix the fact that he has not protection.
Third, let's go postions by position.
C: Soto ok may be a Starter on a good team
1B: ?
2B Barney he is an utility player on a good team
3B: Stewart is a Bench player on a good team
SS: Castro is the only player on this team I would say would be an every day player without question
LF: Soriano shouuld be DHing
CF: Byrd would be a 4th OFer
RF: Dejesus most like role player or 4th Ofer on a good club

I'm not going to worry about position by position rosters until we get to spring training.
