For the first time in it's 60 year history, my high school alma mater won a team sport state championship.  It was an amazing game with each team trading the lead and amazing defensive stands late in the 4th quarter by each team until an interception runback got my team down to the 20-ish yard line with 8 seconds left.  The game winning field goal doinked off the crossbar and in.  It was amazing and fun and magical all around and the first time in my adult life that one of "my" teams won a championship.  Can't wait for that to happen at Wrigley.

Weekend

The 1934 Cubs featured two players with the same initials.  One of them hit .304 and the other hit .303.  What were their names.

Monday:

Who is the Cubs all-time leader in runs scored?

I don't know what Babe's real name was, but I'll say the 1934 guys are the Hermans... Babe and Billy.

Runs scored has to be real close between the 3 guys I'm thinking of.  Will go with Ernie Banks, somewhat reluctantly.

Since Trillo is taken, my second guess is Ryno.

Manny Trillo leading any offensive category is akin to Koyie Hill leading an offensive category.  Get it now?

That's what I figured after looking at his stats (although his age 36 season was pretty beastly) but I wasn't sure if it had to do with something else.

Boring jokes are dumb.

And the Cubs traded Sweet Swinging Billy Williams to get Sweet Swinging Manny.  And Billy would have been my 3rd guess and was probably very close to Ryno... so it's all -- ya know -- connected!

Oh those Kuemper Knights! Right? I remember beating up on them back in the day. Are they 2A now? My nephew's team Exira Elkhorn-Kimbolton lost in the final.

Ya, interesting how much success they are having now in 2A...

Did Exira get blown out?  I had heard from others that Kuemper's game was the only close one (and damn, that was a goooooooood game).

Exira lost in the last minute. It was a close game to the end.
