GEO SOTO 3 M, 2012 est 4-5 M
IAN STEWART 2.3 M,2012 est 3-4 M
JEFF BAKER 1.175 M, 2012 est 1.5-3 M
RANDY WELLS .475 M, 2012 est .750-1 M
BLAKE DEWITT .460 M , 2012 est .750- 1 M
estimated total for group 2 19.6 M
THE CONTROLLABLE CHEAPIES(these salaries are a bit estimated..due to new CBA)
STARLIN CASTRO 475,000
TRAVIS WOOD 441,000
ANDREW CASHNER 450,000
JAMES RUSSELL 430,000
DARWIN BARNEY 430,000
TOTAL FOR GROUP 3 2.23 M
TOTAL FOR THE 3 GROUPS 18 PLAYERS WITH AN ESTIMATED SALARY OF 95.1 MILLION. EVEN IF MY ARB NUMBERS ARE LOW, YOU WOULD PROBABLY BE LOOKING AT ONLY 97 M OR SO.
CONSIDERING THAT 2011 SALARY WAS 135 MILLION....EVEN IF THE CUBS WENT TO A SALARY OF 125....THAT STILL LEAVES CLOSE TO 30 M....
BOTTOM LINE- ROOM FOR PRINCE(IF THEY CHOOSE), ROOM FOR GARZA EXTENSION...MUCH MORE FLEXIBILITY THAN MOST PEOPLE BELIEVE....

Peter Gammons just reported that Boras is considering a 3yr 26+ per yr deal Fielder so he will beat out Alberts annual value. So would the Cubs consider a 5yr deal for 26M+ per years.
I would think he'd either only go 3 years or 7+ years. 5 years would make him a free agent at 32, still looking for his big payday. And since most assume that's around the time his gut will make it past his knees, or his knees will simply say "screw this", I wouldn't think he'd be likely to get a Pujols like contract then.
Maybe 5 years with an player opt-out clause after 3?

so subtract a million from Soriano, which means that would cancel out the Corpas/Sonnanstine derby
I read Wood wants somewhere in the vicinity of 2.5-3.5 million
even if you count the Pena money....factoring possible moves of Marmol 7, Byrd 6.5...they will still be in much better shape than they have been
still probably won't sign Fielder...
