Lefty he can't sing the blues
All night long like he used to
The dust that Pancho bit down south
Ended up in Lefty's mouth
The day they laid poor Pancho low
Lefty split for Ohio
Where he got the bread to go
There ain't nobody knows

All the federales say
They could have had him any day
They only let him slip away
Out of kindness I suppose

Grew up with Willie and Merle, but really digging on the Steve Earle version of this now.

Yeah, Earle does a great version, but to my ears, the best versions are all done by Townes.

(And if you haven't heard Townes' song Marie, you've never heard the saddest song every written.)

Ugh.  Made the mistake of listening to Marie.  Feels like getting punched in the gut.

Yeah, I mean, for what it's worth, I wan't going to feel really good about myself if at least ONE of you didn't call me out on that wholly made-up "corduroy capital of the world" thing that I pulled out of my butt.

I just figured it was you being a hippy and having strong feelings for corduroy and maybe something big happened in Chicago with respect to the hippy movement.
