Despite an earlier report that the Cubs were making plans to host fans at Wrigley Field to watch the October 7th NL Wild Card Game on the video boards there, it’s not going to happen.
Cubs VP of Communications and Community Affairs Julian Green released a statement to various media outlets (CSN, Tribune, ESPN) indicating that the Cubs couldn’t make it work:
We explored the idea of hosting a NL Wild Card viewing party for fans at Wrigley Field, in the event we play on the road. After much consideration regarding the logistics and time required to successfully execute an exceptional guest experience while actively preparing for potential postseason play at home, we have decided to put this plan on hold. Given the excitement we have seen from Cubs fans this season, we know our fans will find a great place to watch the game and cheer on our team.
While that’s definitely a bummer, I can imagine that it’s not quite as simple as opening the doors and letting fans in.
I’ll be in Chicago to watch, even if the game is in Pittsburgh, because I’m hoping to watch with a bunch of you fine folks. Where should we go? I’m pretty partial to Mullen’s on Clark, myself. Would anyone be interested in joining? If there’s enough interest, I can reach out to Mullen’s to see if we can get a little space.
