Carlos Zambrano had his foibles, but he also provided a hell of a lot of entertainment.

Care to share you favorite Z moments?

The Spring Training mustache, for me, is up there. Ditto the double-plunking of Jim Edmonds.

Z vs the Gatorade machine
Z vs Michael Barrett
Z vs D Lee

Oh, I was supposed to just pick one?

That fucking Gatorade machine had it coming.
Peg: Oh Al! Did you miss me?
Al: With every bullet, so far.

Yeah, the umpire ejection/ball thrown to the outfield was a riot, but man, that no hitter was great. I remember immediately after it was posted on MLB.com, I rewatched it. What a bizarre scene.

I once was lucky enough to have Cubs v Sox tickets at Wrigley Field, right behind the Cubs bullpen, 2nd row back. Z pitched that day, and I got to watch his whole bullpen session before the game, and I was simply astounded by how big he was(is) and how hard he was throwing. It was fun to be close enough to see him in a situation where there was no umpires to be frustrated with, or bad infielders to hang blame on. It was just him, throwing, and I guess that's how I want to remember him, as a guy with outstanding stuff, and a great pitcher.

I was also at his debut, the second game of a doubleheader, and begging my mom to let us stay for that second game. The stands were buzzing about him all day, and although he, uh, didnt look so good near the end, it was still pretty cool.

I also vividly remember arguing about him with bonehead Sox fans when he was really dominant during his early years, and how they said he wasn't very good cause he didn't win enough games. On ostensibly shitty teams, but whatever. He was great. They also called him a nutjob, and, well, yea, he wasn't the most sane man out there, but I loved how passionate he was/is. More players could use that sort of fire.

...so, yea, Z was one of my favorites, flaws be damned. I'm gonna miss the hell out of that guy

as an athlete, I loved what he could do...he is a freak...do you know he throws low to mid 80's LEFT-HANDED?...seriously, I read an article about it

he was very good down the stretch in 2003...that will be my answer

His no-hitter was the first that I watched on TV all the way through ... living in Wisconsin, my friend actually scored tickets to that game... forever jealous.

My personal favorite Big Z moment was this past August vs. Reds. I was at the game with a couple friends that are Reds fans visiting from out of town. Zambo hit a line drive home run off Johnny Cueto, and Cubs won the game easily with Z getting the W. I think that may have been Z's last Win and last HR in a Cubs uniform if I'm not mistaken. That was a fun day.

The triple ejection was great. My favorite moment was the first time he struck out Barry Bonds. Bonds was killing everything anywhere near the plate, and young Z comes out firing right over the plate, yelling and screaming, and pumping fists the whole way. It really personifies what I saw from Zambrano, a fiery pitcher who inspired his teammates, not the shadow of the man we saw over the last few years.

The no-no for me, becasue it was the first no hitter that I actually watched the entire game. It was such a great game and to beat the Brewers like that made it even more sweet. Although I fiund anythime that Big Z was at the plate enteretaining, he either hit it out of the park or threw his back out trying.

I have to say the Edmunds double-plunk. But there are many to choose from.

Wait, I swear there is a picture of Z snapping a certain scrappy player in half. I love that picture and that is my favorite moment.

That or when he got traded to the Marlins.

I'll never look at that picture the same again since he got traded. It's like Godzilla invading Wrigley and ripping Campana in half.
