Time for a little silliness in the midst of all this Garza/Big Z bickering. I present my MLB ALL-STAR WARS TEAM. I was but a wee lad of 8 when I first saw Luke Skywalker on the big-screen, so one of my secret shames is my knowledge of, and outright geekiness when it comes to all things Star Wars. So disregarding race, ethnicity and your image of the person(if you have one)...just look at the names, and I bet you can see them as a Star Wars character:

PITCHERS:

JAIR JURRJENS (ATL) (inspired this list)
IVAN NOVA (YANKEES)
ATHAHUALPA SERVINO (WASH) (what?)
JOSH COLLMENTER (ARIZ) (Collmenting sounds like something they may do on Tatooine)
RICK VANDENHURK (BALT)
ALEXI OGANDO (TEX)
JAI MILLER (OAK)
KOJI UEHARA (TEX)

HITTERS:

KILA KA'AIHUE (OAK) (Come on! This one is too perfect..this guy had to be born on Naboo)
MAT GAMEL (MIL) (note the one 'T' in Mat)
ERICK AYBAR (ANGELS)
DAN UGGLA (ATL)
SHIN-SOO-CHOO (CLE)
DAYAN VICIEDO (SOX)
MARCO SCUTARO (BOS)
TROY TULOWITZKI (COL) (Jedi name would just be Tulow the great, or something like that)
J.P. ARENCIBIA (TOR) (named for a planet in the outer rim of the galaxy)
NYJER MORGAN (PIT)
CHASE UTLEY (PHIL) ( he is a human, but he is dashing!)
YONDER ALONSO (SD)
TORII HUNTER (ANGELS) (note the double I)
YORVIT TORREAALBA (TEX)

possible team names: Tatooine Tusken Raiders, Mos Eisley Banthas, Endor Ewoks, Anchorhead Hutts, Kayyshyk Wookies, Dagobah jedi-Masters

I've been a die hard fan of the Hoth Wampas for years. I'm #2398 on the season ticket waiting list!

And the Kamino Cloners! Damn, they're good. Hard to tell 'em apart, though.

And the Mustafar Fireballers! Sizzling fastballs.

Or the Outer Rim Kessel Runners!

I could go on, but some of you might think I'm a bit of a geek...

I rarely laugh out loud while reading on the 'Net (like, the literal laugh out loud), even when I find things quite funny.

This made me laugh out loud multiple times.

I nearly lost my shit when I got to Dan Uggla, whose name I can hear those Trade Federation dudes saying right now.

I always read Aybar as Ackbar, by the way.

Nerf Herders would be good as well....liking Star Wars does not make one a geek! There are just many geeks that like Star Wars...I never dressed up or anything...except in fourth grade as Luke...

the worst element of the Star Wars universe...Hayden Christiansen....

"worst actor ever!"

I would like to nominate an oldie but a goodie - famous Detroit Catcher: John Wockenfuss.

OK, John doesn't really work, but Wockenfuss sure fits.
Please don't feed the psychos.

Just imagine what this would have been like if Lucas went with his original name of Luke Starhopper. Star Wars could have been a silly B-movie but instead it is the ultimate pop-culture reference for those of us in our 30/40s.

If you saw any of the the original trilogy in the theaters and own any of the Mattel toys you are lying if you haven't spend considerable time in your life trying to move things with the Force. In fact I think your lying if you deny that you still don't try it from time to time.
