Cubs Fact:

Cubs Hall of Famer Rogers Hornsby's given first name was his mother's maiden name.

I know this...he was an ornery cuss...of course we got him after his prime....but the Cubs of the late '20s and early '30s were loaded....damn Yankees!

I have always loved the name "Rogers." We don't have a son, but even if we do, the Wife won't let that be the name. I've pushed.

You could just nickname him "The Rajah".

Meh, it's probably for the best that way Brett. To me "Rogers" is too close to "Rodgers", as in Aaron Rodgers...Peppers Taylor? Now you're talking.

Peppers Taylor sounds like a stripper. "Tonights featured dancers are Peppers Taylor and Ample Parking!"

Haha well played Phil. Another interesting fact about Hornsby and the Cubs : him and Hack Wilson combined for 308 RBIs in 1929, and the Cubs scored 982 runs in total that year. I'd venture a guess that if 308 RBIs by teammates is not an MLB record, it's probably pretty close.

I read he wouldn't go to movies because he was afraid of what it would do to his eyes.
When asked what he did all winter, "I just stare out the window and wait for spring."

The next year, Wilson and Kiki Cuyler combined for 325. I admit I did not know that off the top of my head, but I was compelled to look it up because I knew Wilson set the record for RBIs that year with 191.
