Tonight, Chicago Cubs reserve outfielder Reed Johnson will be honored at the 21st annual Comcast SportsNet Sports Awards dinner as one of the top athletes in Chicago.
I’m not trying to be a jerk – I am being a jerk, but I’m not trying to be – but, my guess is that at any given time in the Chicago Cubs clubhouse restroom, Johnson is maybe the third, fourth best athlete in there, tops. And there are only two stalls.
That’s not a shot at Johnson. There are just a lot of great athletes in Chicago.
Besides Johnson, the event will honor the top athletes from each of Chicago’s professional teams. The group includes Patrick Kane of the Blackhawks, Drew Gooden of the Bulls, John Danks of the White Sox, Greg Olsen of the Bears and Brian McBride of the Fire.
Ah, now I get it. It’s like when the guy who played Stiffler receives a best supporting actor award at the Northern Value City Movie Association Spirit Awards.
It’s because he’s willing to show up.
