Cubs Fact:

In 1959, Cubs slugger Dale Long hit back-to-back pinch-hit home runs to set a record.

The most impressive part was being allowed to pinch hit in consecutive at bats like that. Seems like after the first one, he would have had to sit down for a bit...

still don't know him, but after looking him up, even he has a world series title. Man I want a Cubs team to win it all, at least 1 time!!!!!

I agree with Brett. This is either the most remarkable feat in baseball history or the fact is worded poorly...
And that's a bad miss...

I'm not sure, I'm guessing it must have been two seperate games. I just type what it says on the silly calendar.

My thought is that they could have gone through the lineup that inning and he'd have two home runs. Anyone know who to look up box scores from back in the day?

All right, I was too curious. Had to look this up. It was back-to-back games in which he had a pinch-hit HR in each: 8/13 (a 20-9 win over the Giants), and 8/14 (7-5 Cubs over Giants). And yes, I did click through each game individually until I found these.

MG, you can find these stats on baseball-reference.com, FYI.

This has to have been done more than once, right? Or is Dale the only player to ever have done this?

Anyone know [how] to look up box scores from back in the day?

No, as BFiddy said, the item was just written poorly, and I wanted clarification, especially after MG's conjecture. But, at the very least, I'll agree that you are, indeed, a donger.

At least we'll always have that.
