I am assuming a lot of people saw this since it's a public article...quite nice, stuff like this is usually Insider only:
http://espn.go.com/b...sition-rankings
So...in what is widely considered the worst division in baseball, we have only two players (Castro, Soto) on the entire roster who rank in the top 3 at their position within the division.
Is this a biased assessment designed to lead to a desired result? Is this an accurate assessment of our outlook in the division this season?

And that's a bad miss...

I'm going to take a look at this in an upcoming post, but I can't say it's all that far off, sadly.

At this point I'd rank Rizzo #3 even though he won't start the season in the majors. Lee's due a steep decline. I'd take Volstad over the majority of the #5 guys and they're not giving the bullpen enough credit. Otherwise I think it's a fair assessment: rebuilding year.

It's worth a look...the only places where I would fight for the Cubs a bit is Garza deserves to be up a notch or two, and the closer rankings are silly since half of them won't be closing by the end of the year...otherwise I say it's pretty accurate, but it is not necessarily a harbinger for a horrible season....injuries, career years, bounce backs, too many variables...the best teams on paper rarely win....
