In 2012, Chipper Jones played his last season in the Majors Leagues, and, at the ripe old age of 40, made his eighth All-Star game.
Five years later (sometime last week), he became a first-ballot Hall-of-Famer with 97.2% of the vote.
But it wasn’t just his career .303 batting average, .401 OBP, 2726 hits, or even his 468 homers that got him into the Hall on his very first try. It was also his excellent reputation as a leader and all-around awesome human being.
