The search for the next Chicago Cubs manager (that sounds like a VH1 or CW show title, doesn’t it?) is expected to heat up over the next week and a half, as the Cubs bring in candidates for official interviews. Among the names is AAA Iowa manager Ryne Sandberg, who apparently did not formally interview last week when he met with Cubs’ GM Jim Hendry in Albuquerque.
Chicago Cubs minor league manager Ryne Sandberg will be one of several candidates the team will meet with over the next 10 days, according to a major league source. Other known candidates include former Florida Marlins manager Fredi Gonzalez, who will also have a meeting with Cubs general manager Jim Hendry during that same time period, according to the source. After this round of first interviews, the Cubs are likely to pare the list, and then conduct a round of second interviews over the next month.
Cubs officials have denied establishing a schedule for the interview process, however.
