Today the Chicago Cubs outrighted outfielder James Adduci to AAA Iowa, removing him from the team’s 40-man roster. In his place, the team added catcher Robinson Chirinos. Adduci, 25, didn’t do much this year in Iowa, and no longer merited the 40-man spot he held.
Chirinos, on the other hand, tore up the minors this year, splitting time between AA Tennessee and AAA Iowa. Though he’s already 26, Chirinos only started catching a couple years ago, and was a cinch to be picked in the Rule 5 Draft if he wasn’t protected.
With Geovany Soto, Welington Castillo, and now Chirinos all on the 40-man roster, odds are good that Koyie Hill will be non-tendered this winter (though that was pretty much already a given).
