It's President's Day, so in theory it will never be a dead person's holiday in that we should always have a living president. The downside? Jimmy Carter and his Misery Index get a holiday.I have school, no break for me to celebrate dead people's birthdays.

The actual name of the Federal Holiday today is Washington's Birthday. There have been a couple of time the feds tried to formally rename it to President's day (late 60's and again in the 80's) to include other Presidents (namely Lincoln) but has never has actually happened. Several states have done this for a State Holiday but not at the Federal level. It's President's Day, so in theory it will never be a dead person's holiday in that we should always have a living president. Well I'll be a SOB. The interesting thing is that Google didn't do a doodle for the holiday.

Eh, they are gradually moving towards year-round schooling is how I see the increase in school-year breaks. I remember in grade school, we got 2 weeks for Christmas, 2 days for Thanksgiving and Easter and we went from the day after Labor Day to the first week or two of May. I remember when it was a HUGE deal that we had our last day of school in June due to winter weather. Now, it seems in the local schools, if we have a really bad winter, they might be there until July.I am quite gladly off today, as is the rest of my office, as one of our 8 paid holidays. My son is enjoying his first day off of "ski week", a concept that both troubles and confuses me a bit, especially considering his spring break is only five weeks away.
