When I ranked 20 baseball movies a few years ago, the 1998 classic, Bull Durham, took the top spot overall. Here’s the top five, in case you forgot (the time is how much time is actually spent playing baseball in each movie):
- Bull Durham (1988) – 26 minutes 30 seconds
- Moneyball (2011) – 21 minutes 43 seconds
- Major League (1989) – 40 minutes 11 seconds
- Bang the Drum Slowly (1973) – 14 minutes 45 seconds
- The Bad News Bears (1976) – 40 minutes 0 seconds
And I stand by that ranking, because it’s one of my all-time favorite movies. And one of the very best scenes from that movie, the mound visit, has since become quite famous. You remember it, right?
Well, you’re not the only one.
A couple of current Arizona Diamondbacks, A.J. Pollock and Paul Goldshmidt, connected with some former starts, Randy Johnson, Luis Gonzalez, Bob Brenly, and Miguel Montero, to do a short parody of that scene and the results are amazing.

This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains. pic.twitter.com/16rImZdv1C
