Not that he was a legitimate option at first base for the Chicago Cubs next year, but Micah Hoffpauir is off to play ball in Japan in 2011. Often the landing point for aging AAAA types, Hoffpauir will be able to make some money while he’s still able. Hoffpauir played in 162 games with the Cubs over the course of three partial seasons, but was never able to develop into a truly productive part of the club.
The move will clear another 40-man roster spot, something the Cubs will need this week as they add youngsters to protect them from the upcoming Rule Five draft.
